Job Opening at AllPaws - A Fast Growing Startup Offering a Better Way to Adopt a Pet

Lead Developer Position

Job Description

DO YOU LOVE PETS? Are you a talented senior rails developer looking for a unique early-stage opportunity offering unlimited upside with a company that already has proven traction? Does the thought of helping thousands of pets each month get adopted make you excited?

Then this might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you...

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Rails/Full Stack engineer who is interested in joining a fast-growing early stage startup in the pets space. You will take over as the lead (and, at this stage, sole) developer of AllPaws.com with the chance to lead its next stage of growth and help shape AllPaws and its culture from the technology side. You would be coming in as the #1 engineer - only with a site that has already achieved meaningful traction, growth, revenue, and media attention in its young life.  Our current Lead Dev will remain available to assist in order to help ensure a smooth transition.

In this role you will be responsible for all web-based technology and work closely with a proven founder to lead and evolve the organization’s online platform. You will have direct input into feature development, push code frequently, and your work will immediately impact thousands of users per day. Our plans are big, but the current team is small so you should be self-motivated and feel comfortable working independently. You should understand Rails best practices and be able to write clean forward thinking code. You must be able to confidently make architectural decisions for the future of the application, and follow through in implementation. With a small team, fit is super important so you must be (kinda) easy to get along with and possess a strong desire to innovate and test & optimize.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for architecting, designing, scaling, performance tuning, and hosting rails applications. (We have a talented part-time sys admin who leads those functions)
  • You will be solely responsible for all web-based technical work and decisions
  • As we grow, you will spearhead building an engineering team

Competitive Compensation Includes:

  • Competitive salary & guaranteed bonus
  • A generous equity/stock options package reflective of the early stage role and lead developer position
  • 100% paid Medical & Dental coverage
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Unlimited vacation (take as much time off as you need while ensuring your work gets done)

This position is full-time and is conveniently based right next to Penn Station. While work hours can be flexible and work from home days are available, this position is on-location in our NYC office. Remote is not an option.
