Adopt a Shih Tzu
The Shih Tzu is an adorable, petite dog that originated in China over 400 years ago. Today, the Shih Tzu is bred primarily for domestic and family purposes, meaning when you adopt a Shih Tzu, they should be naturally warm, trustworthy, and playful towards their family. The Shih Tzu stands anywhere from 8 to 11 inches tall at the shoulders, and weighs about 9 to 16 pounds when fully grown. Their hair is double layered and hangs past the feet. A positive for when you adopt a Shih Tzu is that they shed very little, making them favorable to those with allergies.
This breed is categorized as brachycephalic, meaning that the muzzle and nose of the Shih Tzu is flat. Their eyes should have an innocent and warm expression giving them an impression of kindness and calmness. Also, the Shih Tzu is a healthy breed with an estimated lifespan of 11 to 16 years, but of course can suffer from minor ailments. These include eyelash malformation, hip dysplasia, and renal dysplasia, among others. All in all, the Shih Tzu makes a wonderful pet, due to its domesticated nature, appealing size, and favorable activity level.
